My watercolor exploration began from swatching different watercolor brands such as General's and Keebor. I then proceeded adding different amounts of water to it, playing washes and densities. I think the challenging part for me was putting additives into the mix, such as rubbing alcohol, as it made the pushes the pigment away, creating rings and bleached-out circular patterns. The most fascinating one was adding salt, as it absorbed the water around it, and when dry, it exposed a grainy texture of pulled color around it. The experiment I had to wait longest for was putting plastic wrap on top of the paint, as it took a long time to dry. However, the result was quite exciting as it left me with ripples, sharp geometric shapes, and hard-edged patterns!

I think my favorite was watercolor pencils, I love the cobmination of the grainy pencil quality with the half-watered down mark. There is something very painterly about it. I think I like dhow there is a combination of rough and gentle mark making. I used this in my little artwork, and recreated the Kazakhstan flag.
